    Barge Trip to Long island

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is hosting an annual trip to Long Island via barge with guided hikes included. This island, only accessible by boat, is a part of Willapa National Wildlife Refuge and is home to the Don Bonker Cedar Grove Trail. The trail winds through an old-growth coastal temperate rainforest with many large western red cedar trees that are nearly 1,000 years old.

Check-in starts at 1:30pm and the barge departs promptly at 2:15pm. Participants will return to Cutthroat Creek by 6:15pm.

The hike to the Cedar Grove is approximately two miles round-trip from the barge landing, on an unpaved trail rated as moderately difficult. Participants must be able to walk on uneven terrain over this distance.

Participants must also wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) on the barge. If you have a PFD, please bring it with youRefuge staff will have PFDs available for those that do not have one. We recommend wearing all-weather clothing and appropriate footwear, and bring water, snacks, binoculars, camera, and insect repellant.
