Update on the Art Table Project

By Pat Welle

The Convergence Art Tables Project is a functional art installation of table and stools that will be placed outside the new Refuge Headquarters. Gary Carpenter, the project’s artist, is completing the table and stool top designs after careful research and discussion with Refuge staff to choose colors, animal positions, and landscapes.

Gary has started bending the tables’ metalwork, and preparing the marble, shell, granite, and glass chips for their terrazzo tops. Each table and stool will showcase flora and fauna species found in the Refuge’s multiple environments.

Here are a few of his drawings featuring the Brants and the Coastal Strawberry included in his designs. The final installation of the Art Tables is expected in early fall, 2022. Funding for this project was made possible by donations to the Friends and a generous grant by the Templin Foundation.
