Join Friends and Stan Pine for a guided hike at Tarlatt Slough.
We'll be meeting at the east end of 95th St off Sandridge Rd on the Willapa Bay side of the peninsula.
Park along 95th St near its dead end. We will gather near the information kiosk to begin the hike.
The South Bay Trail is located within the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge. It is an easy 1.2 mile hike out and back. There are two small hills, then the trail levels out to a dike-top walk out to a viewing area surrounded by an estuary that was once fertile farmlands. The expansive 360-degree view and stillness are wonderful. Very few signs of civilization can be seen. Tideland wildlife, birds, river otters, flying squirrels, and eagles are around and often visible to the patient observer. This is a great hike for all ages and ability levels. There are no restrooms at this location. Bring water, a snack, and a camera. Being a wetlands area, mosquitoes may be present. Dogs are not permitted on this trail.
