  • Participants must bring and wear a Personal flotation device (PFD) on the barge. If you don't have a PFD, the Refuge will have some available

  • Wear all-weather clothing and appropriate footwear.

Registered Friends members will meet at 1:00 pm at the Refuge's Cutthroat Creek unit (3888 Highway 101 Ilwaco, WA) located north of mile marker 24 on Highway 101 between Seaview and Naselle. Participants will return to Cutthroat Creek by 5:30 pm.

This island, only accessible by boat, is a part of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge and is home to the Don Bonker Cedar Grove Trail. This trail winds through an old-growth coastal temperate rainforest with many large western red cedar trees that are nearly 1000 years old.  Past attendees have raved about this barge trip. One said, “I loved the opportunity to be on the island to just explore. The plants, the rocks, the vistas, the quiet. Loved it all.”
