Members Only - Long Island Expedition

Join the Friends of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, August 13, for a members-only, guided hike on Long Island.   

• The hike to the Cedar Grove is approximately 2 miles roundtrip, on an unpaved trail rated at moderate difficulty in some areas. Participants must be able to walk on uneven terrain over a long distance.
  

• Participants must bring and wear a Personal flotation device (PFD) on the barge. If you don't have a PFD, the Refuge will have some available. 
  

• Wear all-weather clothing and appropriate footwear.

• Bring water, snacks, binoculars, camera, and insect repellant.

Registered Friends members will meet at 1:00 pm at the Refuge's Cutthroat Creek unit (3888 Highway 101 Ilwaco, WA) located north of mile marker 24 on Highway 101 between Seaview and Naselle. Participants will return to Cutthroat Creek by 5:30 pm.

This island, only accessible by boat, is a part of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge and is home to the Don Bonker Cedar Grove Trail. This trail winds through an old-growth coastal temperate rainforest with many large western red cedar trees that are nearly 1000 years old.  Past attendees have raved about this barge trip.
