Happy Holidays Everyone! I trust that everyone is enjoying the cool, damp weather. I know the waterfowl certainly are! With all the shallow depressions and wet fields full of water, the waterfowl are spread not only in the open waters of Willapa Bay, but throughout the peninsula. It makes for great local viewing opportunities. If you are interested in a little bit more information on our winter migrants, check out Rebecca Lexa’s article in this newsletter. And on those days when the sun peeks through the clouds, put on your muck boots and hit Refuge trails. They are sure to be wet and muddy in places, but getting outdoors in between storms is certainly good for body and spirit. And as we look to the upcoming new year, our plans are focused on getting together, again and in-person, for some of our signature events, such as the Long Island Barge Trip, Bunco fundraisers, scheduled hikes, volunteer opportunities, and the Wings over Willapa bird festival. I hope to see you all out on the water, on the trails, and at our events during the coming year!
So, from all of the board members of the Friends of Willapa National Wildlife Refuge, we’d like to wish all of you, a healthful and happy holiday season!
