Long Island Excursion
Everyone anticipating the barge excursion to Long Island on July 22 should watch their in-box during the week of June 19 for registration information. Registration is for members only, on a first come, first served basis, and will begin the week of June 26. We will post more information on our website as well.
As part of our community outreach, we will have a booth this year at the Long Beach Kite Festival on the weekend of August 22. We did this two years ago, but missed last year because of a conflict with the Long Island excursion. We are looking forward to a return to one of the most colorful events on the peninsula, and one with the greatest outreach opportunity as well.
Between these summer events, schedule yourself to visit the various locations on the Refuge. Bring a camera, binoculars, bird identification book of choice, and of course some mosquito repellent. Keep an eye on your in-box for announcements of impromptu guided hikes and events.
Wonders of Willapa
We cap off the summer of WoW with our annual Wonders of Willapa program at Tarlatt slough on October 7. This year offers something quite different. Big changes are coming to the South Bay Trail and this means that instead of setting up information booths on the trail, we will be present on the Tarlatt unit between 95th and 85th. This offers a great opportunity to present to the public the changes that are in the making. It will be very informative for all! Again, we always welcome help when it comes to presenting the Refuge to the public at this annual event. Contact the Community Outreach coordinater Bob Duke at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to be part of this years event.
